What I offer:
Consultation
As a consultant, my goal is to empower you and your writing process. We’ll look at things from a macro-view, drawing the big picture. I’ll ask you questions to learn about your process, your content, and your goals, so that you have a clear path forward. We’ll explore tools to empower your process, be it brainstorming, outlining, overcoming writer’s block, research, creating a plan for your project, structuring your writing to best communicate your ideas to your readers, or balancing your writing project with the rest of life.
Consultation may be a one-time-session to help you overcome a specific obstacle or solve a specific problem, or it may be regularly scheduled sessions to empower you throughout your writing process. We’ll decide together what will most benefit you.
Individual sessions are via phone or video call, and begin at seventy-five dollars ($75) per session.
Packages are custom designed, including three (3) or more sessions and the option for brief phone or email communication between sessions, and begin at one-hundred-and-eighty-dollars ($180) per package.
Developmental Editing
In developmental editing, we’ll collaborate to ensure that you’ve said everything you want to say, and that your writing is clear, accessible, and engaging to your audience. I’ll ask you to clearly define your target audience, vision for the piece, and overall goals. We’ll consider each section of your writing in light of the whole, identifying your main idea and key themes, tracking their prominence, placement, and development throughout your text, and ensuring they’re clear throughout. We’ll examine structure and organization on all levels, from chapter order, to paragraph and sentence order, and even phrases within a sentence, so that your writing flows, both logically and aesthetically. We’ll consider what topics may benefit from expansion, and which may benefit from consolidation. As an outside reader, I’ll suggest topics or concepts that would benefit from further explanation or definition, even topics or concepts to add, so that your target audience is engaged from beginning to end. We’ll explore your tone and how it serves your writing, and your readers. This collaborative process should leave you feeling confident in your message and delivery, and excited to share your work with your target audience!
Developmental editing is priced by the project. Ongoing developmental editing work can be priced hourly.
Copy Editing
Copy editing is all about polishing your writing so that it shines! Once you’re happy with your content and structure, it’s time to ensure that your writing is clear and correct. This is the nitty-gritty, word-by-word process of correcting technical errors, such as grammar, spelling, and syntax, and considering details such as phrasing and word choice. We’ll also consider elements of consistency in language, style, and formatting, so that your writing is clear and visually appealing to your readers. After copy editing, you should feel confident that your writing is ready for publication!
Copy editing is priced by the project. Ongoing copy editing work can be priced hourly.
Expedited Services
Expedited services are available on a limited basis and at a fixed rate for small copy and developmental editing projects.
Expedited projects are subject to availability.
Expedited projects are those with a turnaround time of fewer than 15 business days.
